Coping with Challenging Behaviour in Schools

Difficult behaviour is becoming more of a challenge in all schools at the moment. This course, which can be carried out with specialist groups (LSAs, NQTs, teachers in a certain department, for example) or mixed groups gives an opportunity to tap into the expertise and experience of someone who has worked with challenging behaviour in a variety of settings, and provides delegates with the knowledge, skills and behaviour to become more confident and effective in the classroom.

This course covers:

  • Staff behaviours that escalate a crisis
  • The child with emotional and behavioural difficulties
  • Classrooms and management strategies
  • The self-esteem spiral and how to build self-esteem
  • The goals of misbehaviour and strategies to counteract it
  • The four main hidden disabilities – identification and strategies
  • Managing our own anger and that of others

Delivered by Ronnie Young, a teacher with many years experience in schools, specializing in working with pupils who were excluded or had failed in school. Ronnie is passionate about recognising potential and finding a way to bring this out of even the most 'challenging' students.
