Su Orosa is a counsellor and has several
years experience of working with adults with Asperger Syndrome. She
has worked in the field of disability, person-centred support and education
for 20 years and is Project Leader for the ASpire
project (which has been awarded Approved Provider status from the Mentoring
and Befriending Foundation), an adult Asperger Syndrome mentoring and
training project based in Brighton and Hove. Su has experience of counselling
in the areas of bereavement, drugs and alcohol, and young people’s
issues and has a successful track record of working on a one-to-one
basis with both young people and adults with Asperger Syndrome.
Su trained as a counsellor at the Metanoia Institute where she recently
completed a 3-year BA degree course in Person-centred Counselling. She
has also trained in other counselling techniques including: Cognitive
Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing Techniques, Solution
Focused Therapy and Gestalt - all of which can be incorporated into
counselling work with clients, as and when needed.
In her role as a counsellor, she is aware that many adults with Asperger
Syndrome prefer a more directive, coaching approach that will help them
to work out tools and strategies to help them cope with every day life.
Su believes that a combination of these approaches within the realms
of counselling can really help someone to make the changes they want
in their life.
Su is a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists
and abides by their Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. She receives
regular supervision (as all counsellors and psychotherapists are obliged
to do) and is committed to developing her own professional skills.
Su sings in a girl group 50's/60's cover band, owns 2 cats and frequently
doesn’t go to the gym. She also currently shares a house with
two people who have Asperger Syndrome.
