Adults on the Autistic Spectrum Training

With the Autism Act due to be implemented in coming months, which may require staff to have autism specific training, this course will provide a good background in supporting adults of the Autistic Spectrum.

For those supporting adults with autism or Asperger syndrome, this course will give an in-depth look at Autistic Spectrum Disorders, plus a focus on specific adult issues, including friendships, relationships and independent living skills. Suitable for professionals and carers wishing to understand how it feels to have an Autistic Spectrum Disorder and who wants to learn how best to support thse individuals.

The day is delivered by Sarah Hendrickx (MA Autism), a five times published author and experienced trainer and practitioner in the field of Asperger Syndrome, who has also worked in residential care with adults with autism.

We hope to give a unique insight in the ‘whys?’ of Autistic Spectrum behaviour and thought processes.

The day will include an in-depth look at:
• Characteristics of the Autistic Spectrum
• The Autistic Spectrum – history and explanation
• Seeing the world through the eyes of a person on the Autistic Spectrum
• Sexuality and Relationships
• Independent living skills
• Environmental and communication approaches

The day will be informal and interactive with opportunities to learn from each other and share experiences to support best practice care for adults on the Autistic Spectrum.

Cost:
£165.00 for professionals.
£85.00 for parents/carers of, or those with, Asperger Syndrome.
